What inspired you to write Emma's Airport Adventure?
After spending much of my time at the airport watching children pass through the security screening, I was inspired to write Emma's Airport Adventure. I must give the Lord credit as He is the one who gave me the idea. While I was trying to convince myself it was a silly idea, my husband encouraged me to step out in faith. I was also inspired by my oldest son who has shown me that dreams can become a reality; and with God leading the way, all things are possible.

What makes this book stand out from others?
The story in itself is a tool for the traveling family. The airport can be an intimidating place for many people, especially young children. Emma's Airport Adventure helps prepare children for their trip through an airport.

Why do you believe there is a need for this book?
As many know, things changed drastically following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that took place on the United States. Some of the measure that were implemented are evident in the way we travel today. Emma's Airport Adventure helps prepare children by showing them what it is like to go through the security screening process so they know what to expect.

How did you find your illustrator?
I opened a bid at guru.com to locate an illustrator. I requested an example of what Emma might look like from each responding illustrator to assure that I would be working with someone who could illustrate my vision. The response was overwhelming as there are a lot of fabulous artists out there. But the moment I saw Nina Ayzenberg's illustration of Emma I knew she was the one. Nina lives in Maryland and I live in Coos Bay so our means of communication was primarily through email. One day I hope to personally meet this brillant artist who brought Emma to life.

How did you get the book published?
There are so many wonderful self publishers out there ready to help you publish your book. It was a tough decision until I found Lifevest Publishing. I was looking for a publisher who could offer me both paperback and hard bound books. Lifevest not only offered me both, but at an affordable price as well. Tim (my husband) and I traveled to Centennial, Colorado just to meet the folks at Lifevest Publishing. Not only are they wonderful to work with but they do excellent work. Thanks to Lifevest Publishing Emma's Airport Adventure has become a reality!

Marketing is the toughest task. I am trying to use every means possible to contact bookstores, distributors, and businesses that may be interested in Emma's Airport Adventure. I can't tell you how many emails I've sent; how many fax numbers I've dialed, and how many envelopes I've stuffed. I'm planning on making several phone calls, visiting several businesses and doing some tradeshows, festivals and fairs. It's a lot of work but it's been fun.
